How Many Passwords do You Have, And How Do you Remember them All?

Today, it seems that we have passwords for everything. On some days it feels like I have about a hundred of How many passwords do you havethem, and I can't always remember what they all are.

So what do you do?

According to talk show host, Clark Howard, there are some passwords to avoid.

The top 10 are:

 1.  password

 2.  password 1

 3.  123456

 4.  abc123

 5.  letmein

 6.  monkey

 7.  qwerty

 8.  blink182

 9.  myspace 1

10. your name

These are the first passwords that a hacker tries, when they are attempting to access your account.

Clark also recommends that you don't use your birthdate, or a family members birthdate. Don't use the names of your children or your spouse.

Try to come up with something that is completely unrelated to you. And, be sure to have separate passwords for different accounts.  Then, the trick is to remember them all.

They are so smart these days. I know just how you feel!  Funny, because when I have problems with my phone, I hand it to my 14 year old daughter to fix it for me!

Hi Lou, I'm with you.  And you can't write them down, because that defeats the purpose of having them.  It gets crazy sometimes.

In the lending world we need to change our passwords every month, what a royal pain to keep comming up with new ones and remembering them!

Sandy, There is a program called "Password Agent" that will generate and store all your passwords.  The passwords it generates for you are near impossible to crack and after generating them it will store them in the program for you (which is highly encrypted).  It is fantastic and I highly recommend it.  You can use the program to manage all of your passwords and to access your sign in pages quickly and effectively.

It is sold by http://www.moonsoftware.com/

I reccomend this to all Acitverain members if you don't have a password manager already.

Hope you have a great day!

Robert, We have a couple of accounts that require us to change our passwords on a monthly basis also. And it can be difficult.

Dan, I had never heard of password agent. But I am certainly going to check into it.  Sounds like a great program.  Maybe it will make things a bit more manageable.

Hi Michelle, I can be tedious to try to keep track of all the different ones that we have. That's for sure.

Hi Paul, I have to say the answer to that question would be a resounding YES. If you can't remember how many you have, then you have too many.  TOO funny!

I have no idea how many passwords that I have, but I do have a password scheme that lets me have unique passwords for each site but that I can still remember what they are.

My wife and I have this paper we keep all of our passwords written on.  I think we may need to get a second sheet of paper soon.

Sandy I think I have about eight passwords but I hear people use their birth dates or that of their spouse or kids too.

Hi Sandy! We are over run with passwords -- too many to remember.  One of my banks recently went to secret questions, in addition to the passwords -- I couldn't remember what I had originally answered.   So the nice lady at the bank told me to write them all down on a sheet of paper!  Now that's smart! Rob me now. ;-)

Hi Sandy, I finally got a book....a BIG book to list them all!  I have more passwords then I could ever remember!

Hi Sandy, I too had to get a book to help me remember them all!  I'm guilty of often using the same password too.  How would someone come up with blink182?  And why would a hacker think of it? Amazing.

Ann, Your brain freeze keeps you from remembering yours.  You're doing better than I am.  Sometimes I can't remember them and I don't have a brain free at all.

Angie, I would be lost without the forgot my password button too.

Pat, It's just too hard to keep track of them all, isn't it?

Mike, It sounds like a great idea to have a system - I wish I had one for all of mine. Good for you!

John, I hope you keep that paper in a very safe place. I hear you, in needing a second sheet of paper.

Gary, Well you are certainly doing better than I am. I have too many. It makes my head spin.

Mary, That's funny that the bank lady told you to write down all the paaswords. Cracks me up!

Carole, I suppose we all need a big book for our passwords. But then, where do you keep the book for safekeeping??? It's crazy!

Hi Silvia, A couple of these passwords seemed silly to me that hackers would pick right away.  However, Blink182 is a popular one because this is the name of a band that the kids listen to.  The only reason I know that is because of my teenage daughters. Othewise, I'd probably never heard of that before.

Sandy, I have a lot.  I keep them in a little book next to me.  The sites I go into all the time I know, others I need to look up.

Hi Ann, Probably a good thing to change them regulary, right?

Hi TOTO, It's hard to remember them all.  Somedays it's just mind boggling-lol.

Sandy - It is so cumbersome to remember them all. Some sites ask for passwords just to ask it seems....

Hi Ann, Oh no, woman, changing them everytime you log in would definitely not be any fun!

Yes, it can be difficult remembering them all but, in this day and age, it pays to change them frequently then write them down and hide them. Just make sure you don't forget where you hid them. LOL
