The beginning of the new year is always a great time to do some decluttering around the house. I've picked up new things around the holidays and I have Christmas gifts that I have to finish finding a place for. I know that if I don't take the time to get rid of some of the things that I don't use or want anymore, then I'll get buried in "stuff".
So, this past weekend was time to clean closets and dresser drawers of items that I no longer wear. It took me several hours to get through everything. And, I couldn't help but think of the advice we give our sellers in making sure their home is clutter free before it goes on the market, "clear out as much as you can. And, box up the extra items. Buyers need to see how big rooms and closets are."
I know I'm not always as good as I should be about getting rid of things. I'm not terrible, but I do tend to hang on to items, and then eventually, I let go. But, I got alot accomplished. I cleaned the closet from top to bottom and I got rid of many bags of clothes. I will take them to the local church and donate them.
When I stopped to look at the job I had done, I thought, "this would never be okay, if I were selling. The closet is still too cluttered and more than half this stuff would have to go."
Oh well, thank goodness I won't be selling anytime soon.

My phone is not ringing so I might as well clean out a closet, thanks for the idea!
What a great day to start the week,
Paul
Congratulations Sandy, it always feel good when we get a big task like that accomplished! I feel sorry for sellers, if their closets are crammed full, a buyer never says "wow - look at the stuff that closet holds!"
Sandy,
I just cleaned out my garage yesterday. I still have a little more to do...but for the most part, it's done. What a great feeling...so liberating!
Michael
Sandy, I have those Joy Mangano hangers in every single closet. They are the BEST! You can fit double the items and your closet STILL doesn't look crowded. Try them, I give them as gifts I love them so much!
Sandy - It looks better than mine!
Sandy
We can get buried in stuff, I like to donate the stuff.
Good luck and success.

Sandy - Thanks for reminding me to clean out the shed, organize the closets, throw stuff out, refile the filing and on and on. It's a never ending cycle and gives me a headache! Maybe tomorrow :-)
One of the best things about moving last year was throwing away stuff we no longer needed.
Sandy,
I say nearly everyday...at least I am not selling this messy house....;-)

Sandy, great job, reminds me I need to do the same....back end spread makes for clearance of smaller clothes!
Paul, How's that cleaned out closet look today? I'm glad to hear that I'm I inspired you (lol).
Mary, So true. Why is that? We have to have these sellers almost completely empty out their closets, to make them look bigger - as people don't want to see them stuffed full (like mine). I know.
Michael, I think my husband cleans out our garage every 6 months, and every 6 months it needs it again. That's his part of the house - that's why I'm pushing for a shed.
Carole, Oh, no, I bet my closet is a Feng Shui nightmare, isn't it? Oh, I knew it. I'd hate to have you see it. I have never seen a Joe Mangano hanger, but I'm going to look it up to see what they are.
Wendy, Well that is certainly a positive.
Lou, I know, that's why I'm trying to get UN -buried.
Hi John, It is a headache and a never end cycle.
Hi John, Oh, moving is the best, because then you get to throw it all away before you go.
Hi Ann, You're so funny. I always say to sellers, "It's easy for me to stand in your house and tell you what you need to do, but if you came to my house, you'd be telling me all the things I need to do."
Caren, Oh, I know, so true. Trying to keep that back end spread to a minimum! lol
Most of our homes are probably now ready to sell. I know mine isn't! I think I'll clean out my closets tomorrow....
Sandy,
Sometimes the job is overwhelming....

Hi Irene, Unfortunately, I'm with you - my house isn't ready to sell right now, either.
Hi Ann, Agreed - sometimes all of the things that need to be done are overwhelming.
Sandy,
Yes, I would say my house can be overwhelming.....

Ann, All we can do is try to get it done a little bit at a time.
Sandy,
Yes, I need to spend some time on the task of cleaning.....;-)
