Those nights of tossing and turning...
Trying to help those owners that are upside down on their mortgages...
Those hours on hold with short sale lenders...
Pushing to get that short sale under contract, approved, and closed prior to foreclosure...
Worrying about whether that house will appraise in today's market...
The extra time we spend staying educated and abreast of the changes in the market and the laws...
The list goes on and on.
We're in a completely different market, than any of us have ever experienced.
And we've heard that Real Estate Agent just made Top Ten Most Stressful Jobs List by CareerCast.com*.
The list looks like this:
1. Firefighter
2. Senior corporate executive
3. Taxi driver
4. Surgeon
5. Police officer
6. Commercial pilot
7. Highway patrol officer
8. Public relations officer
9. Advertising executive
10. Real estate agent
Funny, but I don't think any agent, today, in our current market, has to see real estate agent on that top ten list of most stressful jobs to appreciate the dedication, commitment, stress and patience that goes with the profession. We've known it for sometime now.
*CareerCast.com rates most and least stressful jobs, best and worst jobs and the top 200 jobs.

Maybe we'll soon see Hallmark Cards distribute those sentiments for us in a relevant, sympathetic fashion. What fun I'm having today. Regarding # 2 though, is that the stress caused from fear of losing the "Golden Parachute"? Thanks Sandy!
Sandy
Thanks for sharing the information, I'm not sure if it's bad or good, but hey we're in the top ten.
Good luck and success.
Lou Ludwig
Sandy I think we should be closer to the top after the last two years.
Well, I'm curious as to how that was put together. I have been a taxi driver in New York City, a commercial pilot and now a Realtor. I think being a Realtor is much more stressful than the other two.
Hi Kevin, Great idea. It seems they write postcards about everything else - this too, would be fitting. I think you could be right - those top corporate executives may be shaking in their shoes.
Lou, I wasn't at all surprised to see real estate agent right there in that list.
John, I have to agree with you - after the last several years it does seem that we should be higher up on the filled with stress list.
Gabe, Your comment is really interesting, so you must graviate to those stressful jobs. Really, being a Realtor is more stressful than being a commercial pilot?
I certainly don't doubt those findings at all! I think our profession is probably experiencing more stress in recent years than most any time I can recall! However, after visiting New York City, and watching cab drivers there, I can certainly understand how taxi drivers could outscore us in the stress department:-)
Some of those closings can be so stressful. Seems like the little ones are the most stressful of all. I'm not surprised at this list.
This is a very, very interesting list here, Sandy. I thought Gabe's comment was very interesting. I would think being a soldier stationed in a war zone would be very stressful as well.
Sandy, absolutely. Being a pilot is pretty orderred and structured with checklists and clear proceedures. Just very rare excitement in flying. Different with real estate.
Sandy ~ I think being a Real Estate Agent is stressful to me because of all the unknowns in this business. When will you see your next closing IE. pay... When will that home sell for the sellers who are hounding you to sell but will not lower their price or fix the problems you have told them about. When is the Bank going to get back with you to let you know if the short sale was approved or not? Buyers and Sellers are more anxious than ever. Finally what about that mean guy that was so rude to me last month as I was putting up a sign for a home for sale and all Realtors are to blame for everything that has happened to the USA. Whewwww ok, off the soap box, smile, go back to work and doing what you love now...lol
Being on that list doesn't surprise me at all! LOL
Sandy,
Not sure I want to be in this top ten list. I have heard that dentist was a stressful job but see they did not make the cut.
Myrl, We do have stressful jobs. I've never been in NYC so I've never seen how chaotic it is there. So, I'll take your word for it on the taxi driver.
Rob, It's funny, sometimes the small closings can be incredibly stressful.
Bruce, Good thought - a soldier should have definitely made this list - I agree.
Gabe, Okay, I can see that - it makes sense - with a routine and structure and a plan - being a pilot would be a very regimented job. And being a Realtor can be chaotic, because you never know what your schedule will be from day to day.
June, Being a Realtor can often be pretty thankless, there's no question about it. It's a tough job. And you're right so much of what we do in our business is based on the unknown - great examples.
Debra, It's a love - hate profession, that's for sure.
Richard, I think that these times that we are experiencing right now make our jobs stressful, because buyers and sellers are so emotional and so many are distressed.
Oh yeah baby! We made the top ten! Sometimes I consider myself lucky to have got in the business when the market took it's nose dive as I have never know the porofession any other way. I absolutely LOVE MY JOB!
