I was out showing houses to investors today, when my buyer stumbled upon this outside electric meter inside a bedroom closet. Obviously, the bedroom was an addition to the property. We wondered who stayed home each month to allow the meter reader to come in to read this electric meter. We had never seen anything quite like it.

Was this a remodel job? Or maybe the owner is "friendly" with the meter reader?
A meter in the bedroom closet? That is the strangest place I have heard yet! Many homes here in Ohio have meters in the basement, but it can be read via technology without even going inside. That is plain creepy to have it in a bedroom closet...wow.
Ed and Celia, Your response cracked me up! Too funny! Based on the looks of it, it was a weekend remodeling job, as I'm certain that permits were not pulled to properly do this job, as this would not have been allowed. You do have a point... maybe the meter reader and the owner were close. -LOL
Carla, This is the strangest place I have ever seen. I have never seen an electric meter inside, much less inside a bedroom closet. This was weird. We don't have basements here, so we don't see them inside.
that's insane. Isn't that some sort of hazard?
That is wild, Sandy! Maybe the electric company hasn't figured it out, yet! ^_~
Very funny...I'll bet it has led to some real inconvenience for both the homeowner and the meter reader on more than one occasion.
Sandy - I am still laughing at Ed and Celia's comment. I've heard about the Milk Man, and the Mail Man, but having the meter in the bedroom closet, seems a tad too "convenient."
Sandy
It looks very likely that home had an addition to the original home and the outside meter is now inside. The question would be was there a permit?
Good luck and success.
Lou Ludwig
Sandy, That is an interesting place to hide the meter. I am also still chuckling over Ed & Celia's comment.
Thats a first for me, love it. I wonder what genius came up with that?
This homeowner must have really needed the extra space to do something like that. Definitely a DIY solution, and not very well thought out.
Just too weird and funny Sandy. I'm guessing it hasn't always been a closet.
Sandy ~ Some Harry Home Owners come up with the craziest ideas and then we have to deal with it afterwards. I have seen some wild stuff but not this yet. Yet I said...lol
Tori, I think it is a hazard. I don't think you're allowed to have your electric meter inside the house, unless there's something out there I don't know about.
Bruce, Now that's a thought -maybe they haven't. And maybe these people haven't paid a bill in years. Wow -what an idea, huh? Never thought about that.
John, Yes, I bet it has. I wonder how they've handled it. Although, I know that the gas company can now read the meter without coming out to the house.
Myrl, Their comment was comical. I loved it. It could be quite a close relationship, couldn't it?
Hi Lou, Well your guess is as good as mine. I am thinking that it was very unlikely that a permit was pulled in this situation, don't you?
Tony and Darcy, They're funny, aren't they? I love their sense of humor.
I don't know, John. What will they think of next, huh?
John, I'm with you, this must have been a DIY project. A bit more planning would have definitely been better.
I think you've got a good guess there, Gabe. At one time this must have been the back of the outside of the house.
June, We never really know what we are going to find, do we? We do see some crazy things in our travels, don't we?
Sandy - I've seen a lot of things while showing homes. But I never seen the electric meter inside a home. Hope to see you at RainCamp.
Hi Sandy, Thanks for the chuckle, that's a new one for me too. Can you just mail-in the reading every month?
Robert, I'm with you, I've never seen this before we looked at this house. Too strange.
Mary, Maybe they're one of the lucky ones that don't have to pay a bill every month, because they can't get their meter read. LOL
