The Space Shuttle Discovery lifted off into space on May 31, 2008 at 5:02 in Cape Canaveral, here in Brevard County Florida. The day was perfect and the sky couldn't have been more clear. For those of us fortunate enough to live here in Brevard County Florida, this is how the liftoff looked. My family and I stood out in our front lawn to watch the shot. I wanted to share it with the rest of you, as it is a breathtaking sight to see.

If you are interested in viewing additional upclose photos of the Discovery launch, go to Florida Today News and above the graduation pictures, choose the tan shuttle button, then go to photo galleries, liftoff and launch. The photos are incredible!

that for you

This is an AWESOME sight Sandy! I used to work for NASA as a contractor and always loved watching the launches!
Hi Sandy - I gre up in Titusville, Melbourne, Indiatlantic and Cocoa Beach - I miss the live launches SO MUCH! They are a sight and experience that one never forgets!
Steve and Leesa, Wow, I bet both of you really miss the experience of living in Brevard. My family and I have never missed a single launch. To us, it is such a privilege to stand outside to see the shots!
Sandy, I wish the shuttle was lifting off a couple of weeks later when I will be in FL. I would love to see a lift off. Here is my neice watching the shuttle lift off last year.
Jimmy, WOW! What a great picture that is of your niece watching the liftoff! I hope you have that one hanging on a wall somewhere! It doesn't get any better than that! Thanks for sharing. You make sure that you get here sometime to see a liftoff - it is sooooo beautiful! And to "feel" the earth rumble as is passes through the atmosphere is something you never forget!
