Howling in the Night, With A Crazy Man Running Down the Street in His Underwear

Last night I went to bed at my usual time, 10:00PM.  When I hit the pillow, I was dead to the world.  It was a very busy week and weekend.

At about 11:30 PM I thought I was dreaming. I heard what sounded like a baby wailing at the top of it's lungs...no, it was two babies.  Well, you know how often times we incorporate real world sounds into our dreams? Well, I started dreaming that I was out in the middle of a field, running towards a baby that I couldn't get to quickly enough. I ran and ran and ran...and couldn't reach it. The cries persisted until they startled me awake.  I sat up in bed and I could hear this painful cry or whine or howl...I couldn't figure out what it was.  It was a unsettling.

I got up and went to the front door and looked out. There were two alley cats standing on my front porch, with their backs hunched, howling. Now, they were definitely at the wrong house.  It's my next door neighbor that loves cats, not me. I opened the door and attempted to shush them away. They looked at me as if I was crazy.  They stood there and began howling even louder. My husband headed outside.  They wouldn't budge! It was the strangest thing! I just wanted them off the porch so we could go back to sleep.

Now, I know that my story of two kitties howling doesn't compare to Mary Douglas' mountain lion she had at her door with a half dead deer in it's mouth (yuck!).

But, had I been more awake at the time, it probably would have been pretty funny to have taken a video of my husband running down the street, at midnight, flailing his arms and yelling at two lost cats, in his joe boxers!

At least he had on his boxers. My old neighbor would come out to get his newspaper at 5:30 every morning without anything. I always hoped he thought everyone is a sleep and wouldn't notice.

That would definately affect curb appeal. Remind me not to buy a rental on your street ;)

HaHaHaHa!! Sandy, Now that's funny!  Not funny that those 2 cats woke you , but the Joe Boxers- That's good! (I hope they didn't have happy faces all over them!)

We have a fox in the neighborhood that wakes up my dog who then likes to go out and bark at the fox at 3 in the morning. Then I have to put on my coat and go out to shush the dog. Next time I won't feel so foolish.  A coat is definately better than boxer shorts!

Sandy...

Funny story, but those cats can REALLY holler when they put their minds to it!

Sandy, I didn't know what to expect from this post but with that title I had to stop by. I think I have just answered the question, "boxers or briefs?" When I started reading this I didn't even know I cared. But if they ever do one of those Active Rain trivia crossword puzzles again and the clue is Sandy Shores' husband's choice of underwear, I am going to ace that thing! I'm starting to worry about you Sandy. Your imagination is getting to be as wild as mine. I think this is what happens when you just keep blogging, and blogging, and blogging..... LOL.

Funny post, Sandy.  A friend of mine once awoke to find his truck being broken into.  Not a shy man, he grabbed his shotgun, loaded it as he was running down the stairs, ran out the front door and down the street at 1am.  Did I mention that he is 6'5", around 400 lbs (on a good day) and doesn't sleep in anything but his birthday suit?  I pity anyone looking out their window at 1am THAT morning!

Denise, That's too funny, so you saw your neighbor more than once in his b-day suit!

Hi Thomas, I guess I can't blame you there! LOL

Hi Miss Mary, Did you like the comparison to your mountain lion? I know my story was weak compared to yours -LOL.  You know what, my husband does have a pair of Joe Boxers that look exactly like that pair! (I love smileys!)

Hi Lise, Best that you throw a coat on to shush your dog, than go out without it -LOL.

Richard, I was very surprised to hear how loud those cats can scream!

Hey Ann, I will remember next time to take those pictures.

Hi Gary, Yes, you're right, the answer is smiley boxers.  I don't know if I could ever dream up the things you do, with that wonderful mind of yours. I wish I could come up with just half the ideas that you do for blogging. Your mind must work 24/7 - your blogging is phenomenal!

Hi Heather, Oh uh, just the thought of a man that's 6'5" tall, 400 lbs with a shot gun would scare me enough, Then you're telling me he's wearing no clothes? Oh my goodness!

Thanks for the laugh this morning! I hear all kinds of sounds around my house at night and I just have to ignore them. We don't get much sleep with our newborn daughter so we take what we can get!

Hi Darrell, How is that beautiful new baby of yours doing? I remember those days well. You have to sneak a nap every chance you can.  Enjoy that baby, you'll blink one day and she'll be heading off to college. It goes so quickly, it's scary!

Well - At least he had some kind of pants on!  I live in California, and that doesn't always happen:-)

Sandy bring him down here for Mardi Gras next year.  He can wear his boxers legally all day long.

Hi Myrl, Oh boy, I bet you see all kinds of things that you probably shouldn't be seeing, huh?

Hi John, You crack me up!  I bet you're right!  At Mardi Gras he would fit right in. I bet you also see all kinds of crazy things and people at Mardi Gras!  I bet that's a WILD TIME!

Dang Sandy, you didnt get a picture?  Too bad the county did away with the trap/neuter/release program we had here.  Yowling at night is one of the drawbacks of our out of control feral cat population here.

Hi Terry, I thought about it after I got back into bed.  Where was the camera?  Oh well.  That yowling absolutely makes my blood curdle - it's so unsettling.
