I have a plaque hanging in my office, and I believe that these are guidelines we can all learn from...
- Never put off tomorrow what you can do today.
- Never trouble another for what you can do yourself.
- Never spend your money before you have earned it.
- We seldom repent of having eaten too little.
- Pride costs more than hunger, thirst and cold.
- Nothing is troublesome that we do willingly.
- How much pain the evils have cost us that never happened.
- Never buy what you don’t need, because it’s cheap.
- Take things always by the smooth handle.
- When angry, count ten before you speak, if very angry count a hundred.

Words from a wise man and a great inspiration. He lived his life by these rules as you have adopted. I married his great, great, great grandson.
Thomas Jefferson truly was a wise man and did so much to make our country great....
The words of Thomas Jefferson that were spoken over two hundred years ago still apply today. Wise words of wisdom.
If we had only learned a few of these...especially number three, the economy would be a bit different.
Hi Sandy - I've heard these things throughout my life time and never realized they came from Thomas Jefferson. It's a great list and has the wisdom of the ages. Thanks for sharing.
We can learn a lot from our forefathers. We need to have this wisdom expressed on a daily basis.
Sandy, that counting to 100 would definitely make most people simmer down. All good ideas.
I have a real problem when people display number 2. I do not mind doing favors for people, but only when they are incapable of doing it themselves.
Hi Sandy

History repeats its self over and over. We should have learned something from these wise words a long time ago.

Sandy, what do you think that old Tom's advice would be now? Maybe something like don't buy something that is too expensive that you really can't afford just because you want it? I am afraid I would be spending too much time counting to 100 when I watch the financial news. Thanks for the reminder of what can be very good guidance.
